EMILIE SIMON (09/24)

(Barclay)
In the French Music scene, Emilie Simon has always been an adventurer - a stylistic nomad, perpetually searching for sounds, encounters and sensations to inspire, record and manipulate in pursuit of avant-garde pop music. Therefore, it’s not surprising she recently relocated to New York, one of the most fascinating and nurturing musical crossroads on the planet, where she continues her quest nestled between the Broadway shows and the sonic research labs.
A disciple of Herbert and Björk, the multi-French Award winner creates her experimental compositions by building rhythmic patterns out of natural elements such as footsteps in the snow and raindrops on a balcony. However, beyond the sonic experiments, her symphonic electro-pop, as displayed on her three albums, exudes a deep love for pop songwriting and the music of heroes David Bowie and Kate Bush.
For her OohLaLA performance, Emilie Simon is excited to present extracts from her original score for the Academy Award-winning documentary, “March of the Penguins,” alongside new material from her forthcoming LP, Big Machine.
