NOUVELLE VAGUE presents HOLLYWOOD MON AMOUR (09/24)
(The Perfect Kiss / Fontana)
Since 2004, producer Marc Collin has weaved together his three passions: the elegance of Bossa Nova, the melancholy of New Wave and the distinct look of Nouvelle Vague cinema, into his impressive musical collective, Nouvelle Vague. The results have been two acclaimed albums of bossa nova-fied cover versions of songs such as Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” The Clash’s “Guns of Brixton” and Blondie’s “Heart of Glass,” sung by a variety of sultry chanteuses like Camille. For his latest challenge, Collin and co. will debut the radical loungey reinterpretations of his new project, “Hollywood, Mon Amour,” a tribute to 1980s film soundtracks. The collective will put their spin on such classics such as “Eye of the Tiger,” “Flashdance…What A Feeling” and James Bond’s “A View To A Kill,” stripping away the dated bombast and overblown synthesisers to reveal the heart of each song. While this will be the premiere live performance of these renditions, they are currently available on the album of the same name, which features vocal contributions from Juliette Lewis, Skye from Morcheeba, Yaël Naïm and Cibelle, among others. Nouvelle Vague’s third LP, 3, will be released shortly after this performance and sees Collin expanding his vision in new directions, tackling American country and bluegrass with a slew of guest singers, including Martin Gore of Depeche Mode, Ian McCulloch of Echo And The Bunnymen and Terry Hall of The Specials.
